Job Description:
Summary:
As a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Administrator in Barr's Minneapolis headquarters, you will help support the technology infrastructure for a 1,000+ person company operating in multiple locations, including Canada. The person in this role will help support the technology infrastructure and data communications systems, a hybrid technology environment consisting of cloud, virtual, and physical elements. Occasional travel may be required to other Barr office locations.
Primary responsibilities:
Maintain existing VMware virtual server and VDI environments
Act as the VMware VDI subject matter expert
Monitor and optimization of virtual environments, manage and balance resource availability and act, as necessary, to help ensure high level of availability
Serve as the technical escalation point for help desk tickets
Install, configure, and test operating systems, application software, and system management tools
Perform problem determination on local and remote systems
Perform regular system updates: Windows operating systems, VMware appliances, and monitoring applications
Recommend upgrades and changes to efficiently and effectively support company goals and initiatives
Share the overall responsibility for system operations and provide support needed to maximize uptime and performance
Act as a technical liaison for internal employees and software vendors
Create and maintain documentation for applications, processes, and training material for IT staff and end users.
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, a related technical field, or equivalent practical working experience
Three years of related work experience
Working knowledge of corporate network environments such as VMware, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
Demonstrated history of, and passion for, continuous, self-initiated learning
Ability to communicate technological concepts and details to various audiences
Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet project commitments
Exceptional client service
Ability to be available for off hours maintenance tasks and occasional emergency response outside of normal business hours
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Azure, Office 365, or AWS
Experience in supporting medium to large technology infrastructure
Experience automating repetitive tasks using scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Ansible)
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
