Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting to the Unit Computing Manager, the Unit Computing Specialist will provide end-user support, resolve hardware and software computer problems. This includes: receiving, prioritizing, documenting and successfully resolving end-user issues.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for the setup and installation of workstations, laptops and peripheral devices.
  • The candidate will be required to maintain the help-desk inventory database, and document PC-related procedures.
  • May conduct hands-on training sessions and instructional classes for students, and staff.
  • May also assist in the development of user procedures and security procedures, the maintenance of software and documentation libraries, and remains up-to-date in new developments and technologies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • This position will be placed into a rotation for after hours on call support.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience as a help-desk technician or in a related field.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid driver's license
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with MS-Windows 10, MS-Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and application support.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information and conduct research into a wide range of computing related issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MCSA and/or MCSE Preferred, ITIL V3 or V4 foundations certified.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
