Posting Summary | A Post-Doctoral Researcher is sought to perform high resolution simulations of the marine boundary layer structure using a coupled ocean-atmosphere model in the vicinity of wind farms in coastal regions. These simulations are to be performed using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model coupled with the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). The primary goal of the project is to develop a wind farm parameterization using the coupled WRF/ROMS model that simulates ocean and atmosphere interactions with wind turbines. Existing WRF wind farm parameterizations will be tested in the coupled model by this PostDoctoral Researcher and a new parameterization developed that is customized for the WRF/ROMS coupled ocean-atmosphere modeling system. The successful applicant must possess a B.S. in Meteorology and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science with demonstrated expertise in marine boundary layer physics. In particular, the candidate must have a record of publication that demonstrates a process-level understanding of the forces that shape the marine boundary layer, especially near-surface flux balances in the presence of evaporating drizzle, and intimate knowledge of marine boundary layer thermodynamics, including decoupling, and the scale and nature of mesoscale circulations. This Post-Doctoral Researcher is expected to work effectively in a team that includes Oceanographers and stakeholders and have a demonstrated record of public presentations at research conferences commensurate with a highly energetic research enterprise. |
