VP HR Services

The VP of HR Services - North America will oversee the planning, design implementation and administration of benefits and payroll for the North America market. The position will ensure compliance with legal requirements, manage vendor relationships and collaborate with 70 subsidiary operations to enhance the experience for our 8,000-employee workforce in North America.

This position reports to the VP of North America Holding.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the payroll and benefits departments.
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and support to senior management on benefits and payroll processes.
  • Regular collaboration with the subsidiary General Managers and HR Managers to understand and align to their needs.
  • Develop and implement programs or processes to enhance customer experience.
  • Identify KPI's (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Determine organizational success and market competitiveness based on KPIs and other business metrics.
  • Draft and implement an overall budget for the HR Services function.
  • Continuously evaluate data flows for payroll and benefit processes and identify opportunities for improvement and/or automation.
  • Manage relationship with third party payroll and benefit service providers and ensure the providers are providing the support to address employee, business, and compliance needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subsidiary HR and accounting teams and ensure their respective payroll and benefit needs (input and output) are being met.
  • Decide and act on all aspects of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, disability insurance and wellness programs.
  • Ensure benefits plans are aligned with the market and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Align the Benefit and Payroll functions to ensure timely data flow and accuracy of contribution/deduction amounts from payroll to respective benefit plan administrators (e.g. 401(k)).
  • Coordinate expatriate payroll and benefits processing and reconciliations including exchange rates, shadow payroll and tax imputations and health coverage.
  • Support the compensation processes in North America, including job grading and benchmarking.

What we expect of you?

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive knowledge of payroll and benefit laws and regulations in the U.S., and general knowledge of payroll and benefit laws and regulations in Canada
  • Extensive knowledge, internal control, retirement funding, and payroll taxes in the U.S., with general knowledge of same in Canada.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, DOL and IRS laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of self-insured benefit programs (i.e. cost drivers, plan designs, risks etc).
  • Knowledge of defined contribution plans (plan designs, benefits, risks etc.).
  • Knowledge of best practices in service center environments.
  • Knowledge of the benefit marketplace (i.e. providers, products, trends etc.).
  • Knowledge of best practices in payroll and benefits.
  • Proficient in payroll systems, benefits systems, and ticketing systems. Dayforce knowledge a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field or equivalent education combined with work experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience managing a multi-state payroll and benefits department.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing process improvement and automation.
  • Prior experience managing a service center work environment.
