Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College Arts & Design Department is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor to teach Visual Design for the Web within the Graphic & Interactive Design Program. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of contemporary graphic design practices, designing for the web and screen-based platforms, a strong portfolio of both professional work, and a commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking skills among students. In addition to teaching during scheduled class time, other job requirements will include preparing course materials, providing instruction and addressing student concerns via CANVAS and/or e-mail outside of class time, and assessing student work throughout the semester.

Essential Duties:

Teach Visual Design for the Web in a MAC design studio/classroom. This 4-hour course is typically taken by students during the third semester of the Graphic & Interactive Design Degree Program curriculum. This course covers the concepts and techniques of art making for the web and other interactive media environments and devices (tablets, screens, etc.). Students will create original web sites and various screen-based content with attention to design fundamentals such as color, typography, imagery and composition. Students will also be introduced to content management systems, streaming media, sound and video for the web and designing for social platforms.

Provide individual and group critiques to students, offering constructive feedback and guidance to enhance their understanding and application of the design process while building their hard and soft skills as required in the design field.

Remain current on trends and developments in contemporary graphic design, the marketplace, and pedagogy as it relates to teaching graphic design at the college level.

Collaborate with colleagues in the Arts & Design Department to contribute to the overall advancement of the program, including participation in the biennial Faculty Exhibition and annual Student Art Exhibition.

Provide academic advisement and support to students, including assistance with portfolio development, transfer opportunities and applications, exhibition opportunities, and career guidance.


Requirements:

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in a related field (or equivalent professional experience) is required.

Minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience with a record of effective instruction and student engagement.

Mastery in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign and other collaborative web applications and platforms such as Adobe XD, Figma, Framer, Click Up, etc.

Demonstrated expertise in Graphic Design, especially web-based design solutions, with a strong portfolio showcasing technical proficiency and professional work.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively connect with a diverse student population.
