Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the professional nurse, and within their scope of practice, provides nursing care and performs appropriate segments of the prescribed medical regime for an assigned group of patients. This position requires providing services to the following age populations: young adult-older adult, in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Essential Functions:

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. (Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
  • Minimizes risk of harm to employees, candidates, and others by following established nursing practices and protocols and individual performance.
  • Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision making.
  • Functions effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care.
  • Creates an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating skills in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning and seeks opportunities for continued professional growth and development and acts in primary preceptor role to appropriate staff members.
  • Demonstrates willingness to give and receive feedback and integrates appropriate changes into practice.
  • Successfully performs urine drug screens, phlebotomy, administration of vaccines (IM and SQ) and PPDS, Fit Testing.
  • Other tasks as assigned to support the JOHN office.

Medication Administration and Prescription

Knowledge of various medications used to treat patients, ability to apply this knowledge to the administration of medications/vaccines in alignment with standing orders and best practices.

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Knowledge of various tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis, ability to explore and analyze reasons behind symptoms and generate resolutions in collaboration with unit leadership.

Health Information Documentation

  • Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education: Graduate of a state approved School of Practical Nursing AND Experience: 2- 3 years of LPN experience preferred

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

Licensed as a Practical Nurse by the state of New Jersey
