Purpose:

The primary responsibility of this position is to fuel Messer's growth through acquiring new business from value-added technology applications. The role provides strong leadership through industry insight, financial stewardship, strategy development and sales plan execution.

The Director of Chemistry & Energy is responsible for the overall profit of the industry segment and must directly drive profitable growth of the industry through team selling of applications in collaboration with field sales/ account management and strategic product supply. This role develops and executes a short term and long-term industry strategy across the United States, through understanding of the market and industry trends. This role serves as the primary interface to the application development team, manages the technology pipeline and attends industry trade associations and industry groups.

Principal Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

* Drives the Messer's safety agenda within the chemical and Oil & Gas industries to ensure the company operates in a manner that is safe for our employees, customers and public

Marketing:

* Represents Messer as an industry specific subject matter expert in regards to safety, quality, and environmental regulations for Messer employees as well as the customer.

People Leadership

  • Assures the attraction, hiring, development and retention of skilled marketing and engineering professionals to optimize business, in collaboration with Human Resource Partner and practices. People management and coaching of Program Managers and Application Sales Engineers for high performance.
  • Understands North American market for the Chemical and Oil & Gas industry. This includes the total market, amenable market for the each current and pipeline technology, total gas industry sales, Messer sales and profit, and five-year forecast for both gas industry and for Messer.
  • Clearly defines the market industry and sets marketing and new business sales strategy.
  • Understands industry trends and manages the new technology pipeline from application development sources and industry sources.

  • Develops and executes industry strategy including positioning of technologies and services for the industry.

  • Research for, communicates to and supports sales regarding lead generation, campaign target list and team selling strategy.
  • Responsible for campaign management and selling, Messer Pro Tech development and training, prospect qualification, value capture analysis, change management of customers' processes, equipment development and introduction, and project execution through commissioning.
  • Selects and justify new products and technologies to sell in North America. Responsible for product launch in conjunction with the Strategic Product Supply and Sales KCMs and Account Managers. Product introduction will include Messer Pro Tech, video and printed collateral material, value capture tools, standard proposals and Account Manager questionnaires.
  • Provides a proactive, continuous feedback program around value offerings to sales, strategic product management, and applications development.
  • Overall profit of the industry segment for Messer. Growing, renewing, and defending existing business is critical.
  • Drives profit and losses of industry (a shared responsibility with market sales.
  • Creates and tracks specific industry and application-based goals to drive revenue, profit and new account development.
  • Plans and implements budget for marketing activities and contributes to sales and performance budget for industry.
  • Determines value of offering and next best technology alternative to market. Price will be derived from this jointly with Sales.
  • Develops profitable industry-based pricing strategy based on product and service offering and competitive alternative to complement pricing input related to cost, and product availability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree, MBA Preferred

* 15 years of experience in Experience in applications, marketing, field sales, national accounts sales, product/brand management, strategy/planning in a related industrial environment
