Performs all types of ultrasound exams on perinatal patients for diagnostic purposes. Optimally operates various types of ultrasound equipment, and exercises independent judgment as to which views are necessary for correct diagnosing purposes. Preps patients accordingly, and assists the perinatologist.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Ultrasound Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Images and measures appropriately. Performs all types of exams.
  • Judges adequacy of image. Knows limitations of exam due to gestational age, fetal position, or patient habitus.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy.
  • Develops differential diagnosis of findings.
  • Asks appropriately for assistance and informs perinatologists of problems.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality while providing a safe environment for patients.
  • Checks equipment for optimal set-up, determines correct equipment usage, cleans and disinfects equipment as per Infection Control policies.
  • Presents case to perinatologist and discusses plan of care.
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.

  • Maintains supplies and restocks as needed.
  • Promotes a compassionate and supportive environment. Demonstrates prompt and consistent service. Incorporate customer's and patient's rights into all aspects of job performance.
  • Communicates (verbally and/or in writing) ideas and instructions to others clearly, accurately and effectively. Demonstrates listening skills, solicits input and feedback from others.
  • Takes responsibility for own actions and attitude. Provides extraordinary service to our patients and customers.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with others effectively within and outside the department.
  • Displays knowledge of PMC services and programs, and the locations that provide these services.
  • Contributes to a clean, safe and uncluttered work environment.
  • Behaves professionally in all interactions with patients, families and other staff members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Associate's degree in Ultrasound technology, Certification in Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography required.
  • First Trimester Certification, Fetal Medicine Foundation Nuchal Translucency
  • 2-3 years prior experience required.
  • Requires ability to read and concentrate frequently to check accuracy of reports, correspondence, computer records, etc.
  • Requires ability to read, understand, analyze and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Requires ability to deal with stress of dealing with public, frequent interruptions, and working on more than one task concurrently.
  • Requires flexibility in order to respond to changes in priorities, special project assignments, and emergency situations.
  • Apply principals of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in order to provide effective patient care.
