Posting Summary
| Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a leading national research university and the state of New Jersey's preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education.

Douglass College is a non-degree-granting program open to undergraduate students at any of the degree-granting schools of Rutgers University-New Brunswick. The Global Village Learning Communities offer a year-long experience in a themed house. Students take two credit-bearing courses in the Fall and Spring, conduct research on a topic related to the theme, and engage with the larger New Brunswick community through service learning. There are five themes and courses offered for the 2024/2025 academic year: 1. Race, Gender, and Identity; 2. Sustainability and the Environment; 3. Global Health and medicine; 4. Africana- Gender & the Black Diaspora; and 5. La Casa - Latino/a/x & Caribbean Diasporas. Class is held on Mondays 5:40 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Sustainability involves meeting basic human needs without undermining human communities, culture, or natural environments. This difficult goal requires recognition of the complex interrelationships among environmental, economic, and social forces and reexamination of our relationships to technology, natural resources, natural science, human development and/or local to global politics. In this course, students will be introduced to a variety of topics, including climate change and environmental pollution, economic globalization, north-south disparity, local and global strategies, agriculture and sustainable food production, environmental ethics and history, and social justice. The course facilitates deeper student exploration of complex interrelationships among contemporary environmental, social, and economic problems and the solutions to overcome them.
