Department RWJ-Pediatrics-UCEDD-PISC
Salary Commensurate With Experience
Posting Summary
Division Director
The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development*
Department of Pediatrics
Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
New Brunswick, New Jersey
The Department of Pediatrics, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, seeks an accomplished scholar, educator, and practitioner to lead The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development*, a departmental center and division within Pediatrics. The Boggs Center is New Jersey's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Services (UCEDD) and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program (NJLEND), federal designations of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Community Living and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau/HRSA, respectively. The Center, guided by the lived experience of individuals and families, is a significant resource in building community capacity addressing disability and human development through education, training and technical assistance, research and evaluation, and the dissemination of information within New Jersey state and community agencies. The Center also serves as a resource in health and disability policy for New Jersey and nationally.
Building upon a 41-year history of promoting the inclusion and community participation of people with disabilities across the life course, The Center's recent renaming * reflects its expanding emphasis on early relational health development. The Boggs Center serves as a nexus within the Department of Pediatrics to address teaching and research on human development and addresses disability in adults through collaboration with the RWJMS Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. With interdisciplinary and collaborative relationships across Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and Arts and Sciences, and educational, clinical, and research partnerships with Children's Specialized Hospital. The Boggs Center is an exemplar of the academic health center.
The ideal candidate for director of The Boggs Center will be a Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician or hold a doctorate in a related field, and who has served as senior faculty in a medical school or other institution of higher education. In addition to the requisite academic preparation, they will have demonstrated experience in disability and human development as a clinician scientist and educator. Experience in public policy is a crucial element of the responsibilities given The Boggs Center's role as a Community Health program of RWJMS, the complexity of the Center's federal designations, the Center's role in the state community, and the importance of public policy in the lives of people with disabilities, their families, and systems of care.
A strong record of securing extramural resources and scholarly contributions to the knowledge base is essential to this faculty leadership role. Ability to collaborate across disciplines, academic entities, and with advocates and communities is also a requirement, as well as demonstrated contributions in leadership roles in professional and academic groups.
*Formerly The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, this broader title is under adoption.
