A Brief Overview
The Behavior Assistant assists in providing developmental and therapeutic programing, play and recreation for children. Assists in providing direct care and behavioral skills training in conjunction with the treatment room team, as well as supports the adaptive functioning of the child in the treatment rooms and on the bus. The Behavior Assistant frequently communicates with and works under the close supervision of the Behavior Assistant/Driver, Behavior Specialists, and Assistant CIEBS Operations Manager. The Behavior Assistant works as an aide on the bus, providing safe transportation services of children to and from the program on a daily basis. Ensures that the bus is a safe environment for all patients at all times and that all required patient documentation is up to date and available while transporting patients. May be requested to assist in transporting program supplies and equipment as needed.

What you will do

• 1. Under supervision, supports the classroom team in meeting the child's individualized treatment plan goals through the use of structured interventions developed by the clinical and behavior team.
• Incorporates treatment goals and interventions for the child into group and individual program activities.
• Participates in assessment of behavioral, emotional and social challenges with guidance and support of Behavior Specialists.
• Contributes to treatment planning.
• Assists in providing educational and supportive activities that improve the child's adaptive functioning.
• Supports the daily transportation services to children in the program by operating as the aide on the bus.
• Follows all bus and program system guidelines and expectations.
• 2. Maintains appropriate documentation and data collection.
• Responsible for timely documentation of clinical information in the patient record.
• Participates in completing evaluation and outcome measures.
• 3. Participates in education and quality improvement activities.
• Assists in data collection as requested with support and guidance of Behavior Specialists.
• Contributes to the preparation and delivery of lectures, posters and other presentations.
• Suggests potential areas for program improvements.
• Implements survival skills curriculum for patient population.
• 4. Maintains a safe therapeutic and hazard free environment.
• Provides close supervision to children during treatment room and program activities.
• Demonstrates and utilizes clearly delineated series of non-violent crisis intervention strategies to facilitate adaptive functioning of patients.
• Only as a last resort, when other less restrictive measures have failed to maintain safety, utilizes Non-violent Physical Crisis Intervention.
• Under close supervision, provides ongoing assessment of the child when they require a restrictive procedure.
• 5. Serves as aide on bus to ensure safe transport to children and their families to and from the program on a daily basis.
• Ensures that pick up and drops off of children is only at/to authorized and designated drop-off sites and care providers.
• Provides regular communication to a clinical team member on any behavioral issues which may have occurred during transport with the child and/or the family.
• Actively engages with patients during transport to ensure safety.
• Maintains appropriate level of noise and minimizes distractions to ensure safety of all patients and staff during transport.
• Utilizes de-escalation strategies and Non-violent Physical Crisis Intervention.
• Assists in maintaining a clean/safe environment for the van.
• Notifies the CIEBS Assistant Manager and families of inclement weather or potentially hazardous driving conditions.
• Maintains and updates all necessary paperwork for the vehicles and for the children who are being transported.

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree psychology, social work, education or related field Required

Experience Qualifications

• At least one (1) year working or interning in the behavioral health or related fields Preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of child development, demonstrated skills working with children in groups, and knowledge of behavioral principles are strongly preferred.A Familiar with and comfortable using computers.
